Overview
This course was developed for restaurant managers working on self-directed learning. It covers five main topics: self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, active listening, and relationship building. Due to organizational confidentiality, only screenshots of the course can be provided. This course is a part of a larger learning program that includes both physical learning experiences, as well as e-Learning.
Design
This is a gamified course where learners choose an avatar at the beginning of the course. Each avatar is a company-branded element that I custom designed in Procreate. There is a menu with the 5 main topics, and after each section, the learner is presented with scenario questions where they have to make an emotionally intelligent decision based on what they learned. They earn coins called emotional currency for each correct answer (the face of the coin is also a company-branded element). Additionally, to add to the gamified feel of the course, there are sound effects for correct/incorrect answers, motion paths for the avatars, and animations.

Process
This course started out with many conversations about scoping and the audience. We met with many of our leadership individuals in the restaurants to ensure our scope would be relevant to our learners. I then researched, outlined, and storyboarded. Our SMEs played a large role in helping make the scenario questions as realistic as possible based on their experiences in the restaurant. After this, design mockups were created in Powerpoint and I custom designed the assets (avatars, coins, icons, animations) in Procreate and Illustrator. Vyond and Storyline were then used to build out the course content. The course makes use of variables to customize the experience based on the selected avatar.
